QUOTES

-Neida Bangerter, Director, Schaefer International Gallery, Maui Arts & Cultural Center

“Rose Adare’s work presents an authentic look at the changing sexuality of 21st century using skilled Renaissance glazing technique and an astute eye for organizing composition in figurative portraiture. In Restraint and Revolution she moves us closer to understanding human difference and the social strata of gender identity, imbuing each canvas with psychosexual energy supported by her subjects compelling stories.”

-Vincent AvilaArtist Owner of Castro Madonna

“I am one happy customer! I understand all the training and hard work that goes into producing such a beautifully rendered image. A photo could never do it justice. It’s life size at 2ft by 4ft high and it’s lighting up my whole house. Rose uses top quality supports and materials, she cares about her work and the end product. If there is ever a fire, I am running out of the house with a cat under one arm and this painting under the other! Thanks again Rose, the painting found her home.

btw this large scale painting also came in a floating frame with a paper sealing on the back. I wasn’t expecting it to be ready to hang but it is!”

-Dave, Lead Tech Support Gamblin Art Materials

“No, I think YOU are the rock star!  What an amazing combination of painting, theatre, acrobatics and concept- I haven’t been this entertained by a painters work in a long time.  It’s been Gamblin’s pleasure and honor to be a small part of what you do.  Fantastic work, Rose- thanks so much for sharing the videos!”

– Lourdan Kimbrell, President/Director Emeritus, Hawaii Museum of Contemporary Art.

“Restraint and Revolution”; the work of Rose Adare is a remarkable series of 25 biographical paintings conceived through interviews and photographs of contemporary individuals who are essentially redefining what it means to be human by stretching what identity, gender, sex, and body enhancement mean in the twenty-first century and beyond. This series of large paintings have been exhibited to acclaim by audiences in the United States.”

-Kristen T Woodward Official Resident Curator for Artists2Artists

“Passio” Comedia d’Amore is an intensely charged sexual image.  The physical push and pull linking the couple creates a mood of titillating voyeurism, while the half masks and added fetishistic gear offer a slick and graphic contrast to the fleshy tints in their corporeal bodies.  But the reflective color in the black latex is significantly sensual and theatrical with its smoky purple and acid green highlights.  Psychologically, heightened allure and almost inscrutable curiosity is provoked by the similarity in the bodily attributes of the figures, and the fact that they’re physically bound together in what appears to be a double laced corset.  They may embody a ying-yang dynamic, or two halves of a strongly archetypal split persona.  The other images in this portfolio, with the uncharacteristic exception of the first untitled piece, are similarly endowed with a strong sensual androgyny or hedonistic fantasy.  Cruenta, as a single figure portrait lacks the dualistic exchange of the former painting, and so lacks elements necessary for the development of a more complex narrative.  But what the piece misses in terms of a multipart arrangement, it makes up for with Classical handling of the sole figure.  The hot, saturated color on the skin of the mythical devil is both seductive and raw.  But his slightly amused or mocking expression belies the injuries that seem to be caused by his own hands.”

– Carol Queen, PhD, Director Center for Sex and Culture

“Rose Adare’s luminous portrait work… …. finds the spirit in her models (and often, their settings) exposing viewers to deep and meaningful identities that may be new to them; the work informs even as it fascinates.”

-Kimberly Dark, professor, lecturer, performer.

“Rose Adare uses her classical realism training to explore the nuances of cultural themes for which language often fails us. She makes a remarkable contribution – not just artistically and creatively, but also to broader conversations about conformity and deviance, and the laudable diversity of humanity. The paintings in collections such as “Restraint and Revolution” are offering a reflection point that allows viewers to explore their own visceral emotions and intellectual standpoints. I’ve witnessed it in action -the ways in which rich dialogue emerges from her exhibitions.”

-Renee Phillips, Director Manhattan Arts International, Board Member, New York Artists Equity, Author, lecturer

“Rose Adare is a Classical Realist painter following the process of applying many translucent layers of oil paint to achieve luminosity with museum-quality proficiency. Her large, dynamic paintings possess a robust contemporary edge and perspective. Adare’s compelling “Restraint and Revolution” series of portrait paintings communicate the “astounding diversity of life and the arduous journey to free expression.”

-Mar Ortaleza Director of Abled Hawaii Artists

“Rose Adare is an amazing insightful artist with such a rich and visually powerful exhibit. Each image draws in the observer to the cliff of curiosity, judgment and fear. Those willing to let go, risk falling into an abyss of acute acceptance, of sacred communion. You be the judge…”

-David Hardy, Founder, Director, Instructor at Atelier School of Classical Realism

“Rose has a vital life force in her that bubbles over into her paintings.  Never to be satisfied with cloying cliches, the originality of her artwork bursts forth with lingering impact. These creations leave one haunted with startling images and ideas, seduced into receiving from her enchanted paint brush. Am I impressed? Of course!”

-Rob Anderson Teacher at the Atelier School for Classical Realism

“I’m so impressed with your art and how far it has come. Terrific! Keep up the great work.”

-David Arv Bragi, Article Writer

“In an art world dominated by digital formats, Rose is an amazing creator or original hand-painted portraits, with an emphasis on subjects who live at the cutting edge of global culture.”

-Paul Porter

“How someone so light, slight, and petite can produce such bold and powerful imagery is a mystery and a miracle. And one that I delight in continuing to ponder.”

-Alexander Stitt, Writer & Mental Health Councilor

“Adare’s evocative realism blends classical oil portraiture with sensual expressionism to give movement to meticulous detail. Invoking dynamic color, Adare’s vibrant series, “Restraint and Revolution” portrays 21st Century counterculture icons embodying courageous vulnerability.”

-Jim Rhodes-Gallery Committee Member of the East Hawai’i Community Center

“You seem to have Hilo’s best word of mouth pr I have ever seen. Thank you for such a wonderful party. I have not seen that big a turn out for two artist at EHCC. loved the dress up!”

“I was truly overwhelmed by the scope, volume and quality of your work on display at the at EHCC! The text you included adjacent to your portraits accented the work perfectly. Both your brush strokes and words create a full picture of these beautiful artists and friends.

A big thumbs up to EHCC for recognizing the importance of your work AND celebrating you as a Eastside Hawaii Island resident and artist!

It is refreshing to see your thought provoking and ‘edgy’ portraits in downtown Hilo. A big thanks to the folks at EHCC for continuing to show artists that represent the the vast diversity and beauty of the art produced on this our vibrant and diverse Island of Hawaii!”

-Robert Weiss, Artist

“I spent a long time at the EHCC yesterday enjoying your work. It is a powerful exhibition and you are one fine artist and painter, a master of your craft. Figurative art is alive, well and making noise in your hands. Congratulations, Rose and I hope the show makes some big time noise for you.”

-Patti Pease Johnson, Artist

“Very very fine show! I enjoyed it much. Love your work. Got to really get an appreciation for each person’s humanity with your words. Couldn’t pick just one favorite, I’d say one is the accordion player for the myriad colors; like the belly dancer much too, fabulous action and happiness; also liked you three girls…very sexy, and oh, the contribution of the mounted corsets is great; the large painting of the couple too — your accomplishment of his hands and her thighs color mixtures and textures are just beautiful; also Buffy St Marie speaks to me in colors, painting shape, artistic composition, her expression. It is a great traveling show!”

-Billy Castro Model for Bonnie is Clyde

“I wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed Rose’s show and appreciate your advising me of it.  I thought about it all day, dreamed about it that night, and woke up thinking about it the next morning.  The images are so alive in my mind and especially Master and Slave Genuflect just keep popping up in my brain.  I’m going to have to drive back up there and buy a print (hope there’s still one available).  “
